Newlands Bishop Farm is a vibrant, inclusive working farm based just minutes from Solihull town centre. We offer work-based learning and training opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, mental health conditions, and autism. Part of the charity Family Care Trust since 2002, we are passionate about creating a space where people can thrive, learn, grow, and feel valued.
What We Do
At Newlands Bishop Farm, we combine hands-on work experience with tailored educational support. Our wide variety of activities helps individuals build life and employment skills, increase their confidence, and achieve their personal goals.
We offer a wide variety of activities across the year, so project workers have the chance to explore new areas, rotate between different tasks, and find what they love most.
Our work based learning activities include:
- Horticulture – Growing flowers, fruits, and vegetables in our gardens and greenhouses.
- Community Gardening Services – Helping with fencing, landscaping, and garden maintenance across the Solihull area.
- Animal Care – From grooming horses and mucking out stables to feeding small animals like rabbits, tortoises, and budgies.
- Woodwork – Creating products like benches, planters, and bird boxes in our dedicated wood workshop.
- Hospitality at Berry’s Café – Serving customers and preparing food in our friendly on-site café, open 7 days a week.
- Woodland Management – Maintaining natural spaces with bushcraft, log splitting, and habitat support for wildlife.
- Crafts, Music & Performing Arts – Exploring creativity through sensory play, drama, and music sessions.
- Sports & Recreation – Encouraging active lifestyles through inclusive sports like tennis, climbing and team games.
- Work Readiness Courses – Including CV writing, interview practice, and employability training in collaboration with Solihull College.
The Roost – Training and Education Centre

Opened in October 2024, The Roost is a modern facility blending education with real-life work experience. It features a canteen, training kitchen, IT suite, and classrooms. Courses include hospitality, food prep, drama, IT, English and Maths, with a focus on gaining practical qualifications and preparing for employment.
It’s also home to our award-winning Minecraft Group, recognised by Disability Smart in 2024, where participants build digital skills and confidence through creative play. Watch more about the Minecraft project by clicking HERE.
Our Values
At Newlands Bishop Farm, we are committed to delivering person-centred support that is fully tailored to the individual needs of each adult with learning disabilities, autism, or mental health conditions. Our supportive environment ensures that every person feels safe, respected, and valued as they explore new opportunities and build essential life and work skills. We believe in empowering individuals to grow in confidence, achieve independence, and take pride in their accomplishments—whether that’s through hands-on work experience, social engagement, or vocational training. Above all, we are proudly inclusive, welcoming people from all backgrounds and abilities, and creating a community where everyone can thrive. Our approach blends compassionate care, practical learning, and inclusive values to help individuals reach their full potential.
Our Vision
“Family Care Trust will provide quality, flexible services that respond to individual needs. We promote independence, dignity and choices in order to maintain or improve the quality of life of adults in need and their carers.”
Weddings & Events

Our stunning three-hat tipi is used to host rustic farm weddings and events during the summer. These events offer fantastic opportunities for project workers to gain hands-on experience in event preparation, catering, and hospitality.
Newlands Bishop Farm, as part of the charitable efforts by Family Care Trust, utilises the proceeds from hosting events and weddings to reinvest in enhancing its services for those in need. This approach not only supports the farm’s primary mission of aiding individuals with learning disabilities and mental health conditions but also ensures the sustainability of their valuable programs.
