Horticulture

The farm grows a variety of bedding and vegetable plants throughout the year which are available to buy from our honesty shop located at the main gates. We also stock a large variety of compost and hanging baskets all created by our project workers.

We have many vegetable beds which are used to grow produce to cook in Berry’s Cafe. Fresh home grown fruit and veg is always a lovely sight when being harvested. The vegetable beds are jam packed with fruit bushes, which the catering team turn into preserves once collected. There is also an orchard at the farm which has established apple and plum trees.

The project workers help to decide which plants they would like to grow in the greenhouse, polytunnels and vegetable beds during the winter. Then in Spring they plant up all the seeds ready for summer. There is often a competition for who can nurture the tallest sunflower! The bedding plants grown are then sold or used to create baskets and planters which are for sale at the farms gates or available to order.

The horticulture team has a big greenhouse, two large polytunnels as well a beach, recycled, sensory and cottage garden (built by Amlin in 2010). The gardens are always being developed and added to keeping our horticulture team very busy!
