Quiet time…

Well compared to shovelling all the sand last week, this week has been a little quieter on the farm. The sand is in the arena and our new motto has been roll roll roll! We will hopefully be getting the rubber to go on top as soon as possible and we will soon be able to use the arena as much as possible! There is some exciting news in the horse care, with a new addition arriving on Monday!  Badger is a 13hh piebald (black and white) gelding (boy) who has a lovely easy going nature and a very chilled out attitude towards life!  There aren't any pictures of…

Horse arena construction…

The arena has started to be filled with the new surface and already 70 tonnes of silica sand has made its way to the farm all the way from Cheshire. Once all the sand is in we will add a top layer of rubber to ensure a nice springy surface to work on and ride the horses in. Here's a little about what we have done so far... Laid a hardcore base layer Put a geotextile membrane down for the surface to lie on Spread silica sand 10cm thick all over and roll, roll, roll! We still have lots to…

Thank you!

A massive thank you to everyone that joined us on our open day! It was a great day, the weather stayed on our side and no one got stuck parking on the field! It was fantastic to see Berry's Cafe in full use and buzzing with life. The horses demonstrated some of the tricks they have been learning from their trick training sessions and were impeccably behaved. The activities were enjoyed by all, and it was great to see so many people around the farm seeing and taking part in what we get up to. Berry's Cafe got its official opening on…

National grid visit the farm again!

National grid have been back to the farm this week to help out once again. The original plan was for them to come and lay some slate slabs outside the front of the new building and a path across the back to  the decking area. Mother nature definatley didn't want this project to take off and once again threatened heavy rain! Because of this the 30 staff that joined us for the day kindly opted to do some other jobs we needed to finish around the farm. The list of jobs the groups helped with was fantastic, and has really helped in our preparation for our…

Open Day 19th October 2012!

Its that time of year again where we invite everyone down to the farm to see what we are getting up to and to show how we have grown over the last twelve months! A huge amount has changed since the last open day! The idea behind the open day is to invite everyone to come and see what we get up to in our groups on a day to day basis and to join in with some of the activities. Please download the leaflet above and hand it out to those who you think would like to…

News from CGS….

The community garden project at Saxon Way is an exciting programme of help for local residents offered by adults with learning disabilities, which gives our project workers a sense of worth and teaches them independent life skills, as well as helping pensioners and private customers. http://www.familycaretrust.co.uk/communitygardeningservices.html The staff at Land Rover Solihull have kindly nominated CGS as their chosen charity to sponsor for two years. Jaguar Land Rover also came out to help at CGS for one day... It all started with a visit on site to CGS to meet and talk to the project workers about what they would like…

A helping hand…

Well what a week it has been! Wednesday saw 15 staff from IMI come to the farm to help with various tasks. They split into two groups, one tidying all the wood away from the back of the wood store and the other digging away some of the driveway and laying new kerb stones ready for it to be filled in like the rest of the drive. They only had the afternoon with us and did a fantastic job - meeting all the goals they had set themselves. Thank you again for all your help! This Saturday (22nd September) there is an event…

Sorry for being quiet!!!

Sorry for the quiet patch on the blog! It has been yet again another busy few weeks on the farm. We now have all the electricity we need to supply the new building and are in the process of having all the extra kitchen appliances installed. I think chef is most excited about having the dishwasher up and running most of all! He's hiding his excitement below! Hopefully many of you will have seen our Facebook and Twitter feeds and will have seen the video of a chick hatching. We have 10 new arrivals which have made the end stable home…

Guest blogger…

Yesterday afternoon one of our project workers wrote a small blog about what he got up to yesterday....   Today on the farm there is no electric on in the new cafe because the builders are sorting out the new electrics in the barn. They are having to use  a generator to cook the food.   In the morning our group held a mini Olympics with Jimbo and Willow (two of our horses). This was to see how good or bad we are at handling the horses.  We also watched Billy (another one of our horses) get lunged. She was feeling a…
