Everest in 12 hours

As part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations for the Family Care Trust we set ourselves the challenge of trying to climb Mount Everest in a day on the climbing wall at Flash Climbing Centre in Solihull. This requires us to climb 29,035 feet in 12 hours! It was a huge challenge but as always the project workers, staff and supporters of Newlands Bishop Farm rose to the challenge! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our first Trivia & Chilli Night. This event was part of the Family Care Trusts 25th Anniversary celebrations and it was so wonderful to see the event so well supported.The evening raised over £1200 towards our £250,000 target in our 25th Anniversary year. Thank you to everyone that came to our open day today! It was a bit soggy but it was so fantastic to see everyone enjoying the scarecrows, opening the sensory garden with the team from Cadent (who helped get this project started!) cutting the ribbon on the new tractor with Eversfield School whose fundraising enabled us to purchase the tractor, and of course being able to show the mayor of Solihull all of our new projects. The farm is really springing into life and there are wonderful colours all over the gardens! The hanging baskets created by the horticulture team look wonderful and are still available to purchase outside the front of Berrys cafe. All the hanging baskets at the farm have been created with lots of care by the project workers in the horticulture team. Every couple of months the farm runs a craft club where project workers ca attend to help make things for us to sell on our sales days. Birmingham airport staff come spend the day at the farm

On Friday 29th March we were joined by a team from Birmingham airport to help us do various jobs around the farm including to help us start developing the new sensory garden. Before the team arrived The base for the new shed has now been dug out and the new path way which will weave around the garden has been mapped out. The pathway will ensure that the garden is accessible to those in wheelchairs so that they can also enjoy the garden. The dry warmer weather has been fantastic at the farm and all of the animals and plants have been enjoying the recent sunshine. Getting ready for sales day 7th December 11-3, everyone is welcome!

November is a time for finishing off projects and getting ready for colder weather approaching us in winter. Some of the vegetable beds have been covered and insulated, this is to stop any new seeds from settling into the soil and to keep the soil a little warmer so that any seeds already in the bed wont be killed in colder temperatures.
