Welcome to The Roost at Newlands Bishop Farm
The Roost is our exciting new training and education centre located at Newlands Bishop Farm, part of the Family Care Trust charity in Solihull. Our mission is to provide meaningful opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, helping them to develop new skills, gain confidence, and achieve their full potential.
A Centre for Learning and Growth
The Roost is a multi-purpose facility, functioning as both a canteen and an education centre. We offer a diverse range of work-based learning opportunities and classroom-based education to support adults with learning disabilities in developing practical skills and life skills. The Roost’s canteen allows participants to gain hands-on experience in hospitality, customer service, and food preparation, all within a supportive and inclusive environment. These valuable experiences prepare individuals for the workforce while promoting independence.
Work-Based Learning and Classroom Education
At The Roost, we embrace a holistic approach to education. Our curriculum includes classroom-based courses in IT, English, and Maths, along with vocational training in collaboration with Solihull College covering animal care and horticulture. These courses are tailored to meet the specific needs of each participant, helping them to develop essential skills for future employment and independent living.
Minecraft Group: A Nationally Commended Initiative
The Roost is also home to our award-winning Minecraft Group, which received the Disability Smart ‘Commended’ Award in April 2024. This initiative offers a creative and supportive environment where participants can explore technology, improve problem-solving skills, and build social connections through the popular video game platform Minecraft.
Supporting Adults with Learning Disabilities
The Roost is designed to provide a nurturing and inclusive space where every individual can thrive. Our mission is to help adults with learning disabilities gain independence, develop new skills, and engage in meaningful activities that improve their quality of life. From practical work experience in the canteen to classroom learning and vocational training, The Roost brings together education, development, and growth in one place.
We are passionate about creating a space where everyone feels welcome, supported, and valued.
